Since the very beginning of its production history, Umani Ronchi has distinguished itself as a benchmark for Verdicchio, through rigorous agronomic experimentation, meticulous care of its estate vineyards, and the adoption of the most advanced cultivation and winemaking techniques. Umani Ronchi's vineyards currently span a total of 200 hectares, distributed across 10 distinct plots, respecting and enhancing the terroir and the most important native Marche grape varieties, such as Verdicchio.

The vine: Umani Ronchi's promotion of this latter grape variety began in the mid-1980s, with the creation of stunning crus capable of competing with the great Italian whites, first and foremost Casal di Serra Vecchie Vigne. The Busche vineyard, which produces this exclusive Verdicchio, was consolidated into a single property in the late 1970s, only after lengthy negotiations with small local producers. In 2004, the replanting of some vines was followed by the decision to preserve 10 hectares of vines intact. These, in addition to conserving the company's historical memory, annually produce the grapes for Verdicchio Casal di Serra Vecchie Vigne. The unique location and the excellent balance of growth and production of the old vines, planted in the early 1970s, allow the grapes to be harvested only when they have reached a slight degree of over-ripening. The long period of aging, first in concrete tanks in contact with native yeasts and then in the bottle, gives this Verdicchio cru particular characteristics of fullness and typicality, recognized by the majority of industry guides with the most coveted awards.

Characteristics: Bright golden yellow, the nose reveals a broad bouquet of broom, chamomile, ripe apricot, pineapple, and peach with pleasant hints of wild mint, sage, and hazelnut. It was Gino Umani Ronchi who began to write our story. He did so by establishing a small farm in the Marche region. A few years later, Roberto Bianchi, a construction entrepreneur from Ancona with a strong passion for agriculture, and his son-in-law Massimo Bernetti, a recent graduate in Political Science and aspiring to a diplomatic career, joined that small business... The story of Umani Ronchi began in the late 1950s, when Gino Umani Ronchi established a small farm in Cupramontana, the heart of Verdicchio Classico, in the Marche region.A few years later, the company was acquired by the Bianchi-Bernetti family, who acquired the brand along with the property, bringing a new entrepreneurial impetus. On January 4, 1968, it became a winery, and just a year later, the company's headquarters and administrative offices moved to Osimo, where the cellar dedicated to the production of Rosso Conero was inaugurated. During the same period, the Castelbellino cellar, already dedicated to the production of Verdicchio, was expanded. Management of the company was entrusted to Massimo Bernetti, who pursued three overarching objectives with vision, foresight, and entrepreneurial flair: developing the marketing of wines on foreign markets, particularly Germany and the UK; increasing production, adding Rosso Conero to Verdicchio; and expanding the company's agricultural area, which gradually reached over 200 hectares of vineyards in the Marche and Abruzzo regions. During those same years, Massimo Bernetti decided to work on the entire production chain, improving its quality and expanding the offering, starting with red wines, especially Rosso Conero. The first vintage of San Lorenzo was released in 1982, and Cumaro was born in 1985. Verdicchio was also renewed through the isolation of individual vineyards and reserves: Casal di Serra was born in 1983, and 1985 saw the first harvest of Verdicchio Villa Bianchi. In the early 1990s, Massimo Bernetti, supported by his son Michele, a recent graduate in Economics and Business from Ancona, and with experience in London in the Sales Department of the import agency that handled the distribution of Umani Ronchi wines in the United Kingdom, decided to undertake research into the most advanced agronomic and winemaking techniques, also through collaborations with experts from leading university research centers.

What our past was like, what our future will be like

The story of Umani Ronchi began in the late 1950s, when Gino Umani Ronchi founded a small winery in Cupramontana, the Marche region, home to Verdicchio Classico. Looking beyond the region's borders, he decided to enlist the valuable collaboration of winemaker Giacomo Tachis, known for creating wines such as Solaia and Sassicaia. From this collaboration, in 1994, Pelago was born, the result of extensive research into international grape varieties and their integration into the local terroir, and winner of the International Wine Challenge in London. The award for "Best Red Wine in the World" brought it to the front pages of leading national and international publications. Shortly thereafter, Wine Enthusiast magazine included it among the top 100 wines of 1998, with a score of 97/100. 2000 saw the completion of the new wine cellar: an architectural and cultural project that was part of a broader renovation of the Osimo winery. This architectural feat once again demonstrated the winery's commitment to research and innovation. Michele, along with his technicians, continues to refine the style of his wines, creating new products and meticulously curating existing labels. This is a process of perfecting the Umani Ronchi collection in an extremely challenging and competitive domestic and international market, where differentiation is essential and the pursuit of uncompromising quality is paramount. The Decanter Gold Medal awarded to Cùmaro 2004 and the Gambero Rosso White Wine of the Year title awarded to Verdicchio Vecchie Vigne 2009 are the latest confirmations of this meticulous work, rooted in time. Today, Michele combines his technical and managerial commitments with the development of foreign markets. In this way, Umani Ronchi has become a truly international brand, a symbol of Italian winemaking excellence. In 2015, Michele Bernetti was chosen as "Ambassador of the Marche del Vino in the World" for the Milan Expo. Along with this important recognition, Umani Ronchi is moving toward completing the conversion and organic certification of all its vineyards. In 2020, Umani Ronchi was named to Wine Spectator's Top 34 Wineries in Italy.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0401/6616/2598/products/VerdicchiodeiCastellidiJesiSuperioreVecchieVigneDOCBioUmaniRonchi.png?v=1716903542
https://cosidilposto.com/en/products/verdicchio-dei-castelli-di-jesi-superiore-vecchie-vigne-doc-bio-umani-ronchi
