It's a quintessential expression of a grape variety unique on the international scene for its power, structure, and longevity.

Process: A 24-month refinement in large barrels and a further 12 months in the bottle allow for a precise territorial identity and excellent immediate drinkability but open up to an evolutionary potential that settles, at least, for 10 years.

Characteristics: An intense, deep, and impenetrable ruby red, the nose is a symphony of blackberry jam and blueberry, cherry in brandy and carob, rose petals, and damp earth, against a darker backdrop of dark chocolate and licorice. The concentrated palate, incredibly tactile, almost chewy, is both powerful and mellow, with a touching tannin and a fresh-savory balance that softens the overall impression. The balsamic finish is endless.

Pairings: A great wine for rich meat dishes, it also pairs well with aged cheeses. For a classic pairing, try it with Duck with Black Truffles from Norcia. With rich, flavorful dishes like beef stew or wild boar braised beef, it pairs well with very aged cheeses.

Technical data sheet

SIZE: 0.75 litre bottles.

ORIGIN: Umbria.

GRAPES: 100% Sagrantino.

GRADATION: 15% vol.

SERVING TEMPERATURE: Temperature between 12/18°C.

STORAGE METHOD: in a cool place away from sunlight.

PRODUCER: Castelbuono Estate, Lunelli - Loc. Their efforts initially focused on the vineyards, now converted to organic farming, with new plantings and the enhancement of existing ones through a complex clone selection project. In 2003, the Montefalco Sagrantino was launched, followed the following year by the Montefalco Rosso. However, a new winery was needed, and the Lunelli family, thanks to a solid and long-standing friendship with Arnaldo Pomodoro, one of the greatest contemporary artists, proposed building it. The Maestro enthusiastically accepted, and after the initial site inspection, he had already envisioned the project. The "Carapace"—as Pomodoro chose to name the winery—required six years of construction and was inaugurated and opened to the public for tours and tastings in June 2012. It is a unique work that blurs the lines between sculpture and architecture. It is the first sculpture in the world where one both lives and works, a unique work in which art and nature, sculpture and wine, engage in a dialogue, emphasizing the exceptional nature of both the container and its contents. It presents itself to the eye as a large copper-covered dome, etched with cracks that resemble the furrows of the earth that embrace it. A sculptural element in the shape of a red arrow sticking into the ground emphasizes the work within the landscape. Entering the "Carapace" is like entering a sculpture by Pomodoro, as his artistic language, instantly recognizable in the interior vault, immediately suggests.A signature cellar for signature wines.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0401/6616/2598/products/MontefalcoSagrantinoCarapaceBIOTenuteLunelli.png?v=1716904174
